Synagogue Tours

The Chesed-El Synagogue was built in 1905 by prominent Jewish businessman Sir Manasseh Meyer to cater to the then increasing number of Jewish worshippers. During World War II, the synagogue was the focal point for the Jewish Community for the exchange of news and collection of donations to help those in need. The building was designed in the Late Renaissance style and was declared as a national monument on 18 December 1998.

The oldest Jewish synagogue in Southeast Asia, it was constructed in 1878 and was officially gazette as a national monument on February 27, 1998. The synagogue provides a variety of social and educational activities besides the religious services held for the Jewish community.

Join us as we show you the beauty in simplicity at both the Maghain Aboth Synagogue and Chesed – El Synagogue. Explore the Neoclassical façade and the hybrid of Neoclassical and Colonial style architecture indoors, with traditional columns and rustic walls deliberately kept bare of any decoration or images.
